"The arts are central to our nation's civic, economic and cultural
vitality. The arts reflect who we are and what we stand for....

We need to have a seat at the big table with the grown-ups.
Art should be part of the plans to come out of this recession."

- Rocco Landesman, new Chairman, the National Endowment for the Arts

In these turbulent times, just what is the significance of one nonprofit movie house? We'd be foolish not to put our fortunes in perspective. But let's also remember why Film Forum continues to be important to you (we hope). Movies were born just a century ago. And since that time they've:
• entertained a nation that suffered through the Great Depression
• become one of the great forces for political and social change
• opened up aesthetic worlds previously unknown

Recognizing the financial concerns everyone is facing, we are asking you for a small gift. Your contribution will help maintain our programs during this period of economic uncertainty.

And now you can DOUBLE the size of your gift. Board member Paige Royer and her husband J. Kerry Clayton have pledged $100,000 to Film Forum, to be matched on a 1-to-1 basis through June 30, 2010. Every dollar we receive from you will have double the impact. Your name will be recorded on our website as a donor to small is beautiful. Click here for the list of donors.

Please make a tax-deductible gift of
$10, $15, $25, (or leap into the jumbo-small category) $50.

How the economy affects us:
Just like your investments, ours have suffered greatly. In fall 2007 our endowment provided $166,000 toward day-to-day expenses. But last fall we were unable to access any endowment earnings, and the same is true this fall.

We’re economizing:
Film Forum staff is thinking creatively about saving money without impacting our services to the public. These are a few of the things we're doing:
• more rigorous comparative shopping for supplies; buying in bulk
• reducing print runs of calendars and other printed materials
• encouraging receipt of calendars via email

Please support our small is beautiful campaign today and help FF continue to present the best in independent and classic cinema.

Many thanks for your support.
