PURPOSE. Update trailer information (buy tickets
online, turn off cell phones, etc.), alter graphic design
(blend type, architecture, color into animated form),
show recently remodeled box office, transform original,
background texture (suggesting film exclusively) to reflect
a converged multiple-media project, yet also maintain
continuity with Film Forum themes, e.g. the Constructivist-inspired
dancing letter logo.
PROCESS. Record interiors with 35 mm still camera
saved to CD files. Record booth interiors with Sony 3-chip
DV camera. Draw multilayered images in Photoshop. Import
all to After Effects 5.5. Use multiple, nested comps
at film resolution, layer modes, vector paint, path text,
time remap, and other native tools to animate elements
in synch with original music track by Carter Burwell.
Layoff sequenced files for both 4:3 and anamorphic projection
(totaling 8 GB) via Firewire hard drive to motion film
recorder at DuArt Labs digital department. Also layoff
to DigiBeta and small Quicktime and Flash files for distribution
on Web.
PROJECTION. In addition to classic 35 mm motion
picture projection the new trailer also projects on the
new Eiki LCD projector (model LC-XC1). Before feature
plays on a Sony DigiBeta deck (model J3) the trailer
will play on a G4 Mac within native Quicktime (640 X
480, 24 fps, Animation codec @ Millions/50). Increased
computer speed allows movie to play full size at real
time on the desktop, interfaced with the projector via
video-mirrored VGA port.
