***** [5 stars]EXQUISITE! Like the best art, FOREVER is ultimately a meditation on the human condition and how, in the midst of grief and loss, we manage to create fragile, piercing joys.”
– Tom Beer, Time Out New York

“(Heddy Honigmann) takes us inside the hearts of subjects most other filmmakers would never have noticed.”
– John Anderson, film critic & author

“Excellent, Gripping!” – New York magazine

“Exhilarating!” – V.A. Musetto, The New York Post

It's been a long summer, my movie friends. Diversions, reports, polemics, come-ons and a plentiful supply
of time- wasters have filled the theaters. Now, at last, comes a film that was made for love.
I'd almost forgotten what I was missing until Honigmann reminded me – but that, of course, is what FOREVER is all about.”
– Stuart Klawans, The Nation

“A meditation on the immortal power of art.” – The International Herald Tribune

“Sumptuous!” – Paul Arthur, Film Comment

“Mesmerizing!” – Variety

“Sublime!”– Maria Garcia, Film Journal International

"A delicate, measured work of unexpected wisdom and hope that preserves the mysteries of love, art, and memory...
(It) conveys equally and elegantly the loving devotion of the living to the departed, and the redemptive, revitalizing power of art.
One of the very few (documentaries) where we genuinely feel how necessary, how much of a lifeblood (or life preserver), art can be."

– Nicolas Rapold, The New York Sun

“An exquisite paean to the enduring nature of art” – Toronto Globe and Mail

“LIFE IS SHORT; ART IS LONG.” — Hippocrates. For the past 20 years, Heddy Honigmann has been producing documentaries of uncommon beauty, insight and intelligence. Ostensibly, a visit to Paris’s famed Père Lachaise cemetery FOREVER focuses upon those visitors who haunt the graves of artists whose work has touched them profoundly: they talk about Maria Callas’s arias, Modigliani’s nudes, Jim Morrison’s rock lyrics, Simone Signoret’s sexy screen presence, Chopin’s sonatas. A testament to the oft-quoted notion that a civilization is not remembered by its great military victories but by its most brilliant artistic accomplishments.

Directed By Anita Thacher

LOST / IN MEMORIAM:

FOREVER is complemented by Anita Thacher’s elegant, abstract tribute, LOST / IN MEMORIAM: stylized images of tulips and waving grasses whose splendid sensuality are an apt elegy for creative lives of friends loved and lost.
