 Introduction to PATIENCE (AFTER SEBALD) by Lynne Sharon Schwartz, editor of The Emergence of Memory: Conversations with W.G. Sebald.

Lynne Sharon Schwartz is the author of 22 books, including novels, short stories, essays, poetry, and translations from Italian. Her most recent book is the poetry collection, See You in the Dark, published by Northwestern University Press. Her newest novel, Two-Part Inventions, will appear in the fall from Counterpoint Press. Her earlier works include the novels Leaving Brooklyn, Disturbances in the Field, and The Writing on the Wall; and the memoirs Not Now, Voyager, and Ruined by Reading. She is the editor of The Emergence of Memory: Conversations With W.G. Sebald. Ms. Schwartz teaches in the Bennington Writing Seminars and in the Columbia University graduate writing program.
