Directed by Cesar Paes Produced by Marie-Clemence Paes FRANCE/BRAZIL, 2000 94 MINUTES IN PORTUGUESE WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES Film source information Sao Paulo, with a population of 16 million, the world's 5th largest city, is a magnet for thousands of Nordestinos, Brazilians drawn from that nation's drought-stricken Northeast, who seek their fortune amid the urban cacophony. SAUDADE DO FUTURO records the sights and sounds of the many extraordinary street musicians whose music and lyrics tell the stories of their lives with improvised humor, drama and colorful vulgarisms. The film takes a kaleidoscopic form (there is no dialogue or narration), swooping down into one neighborhood after another, enjoying the infectious rhythms and dazzling ingenuity of these street troubadours. |
