Film Forum

May 2013

Dear Friend:

While the march of technology continues apace (online streaming, video-on-demand, et alia), Film Forum remains a destination to see films on screen. We thank our generous supporters for their willingness to take chances on new filmmakers and revisit movie classics. Film Forum would not exist without the loyalty of our members and donors.

We recognize that we are not the only nonprofit venue in town that exhibits film.

However, only Film Forum can claim all of the following:

  • Film exhibition is our sole focus.
  • We are a stand-alone nonprofit, not part of a larger entity.
  • First-run independent premieres screen 365 days per year.
  • Repertory films screen 365 days per year.
  • Commercial releases are not included among our offerings. Many of our colleagues bolster their bottom lines with commercial titles (e.g. ZERO DARK THIRTY, ARGO, DJANGO UNCHAINED, THE HUNGER GAMES, LINCOLN).
  • Our facilities are not owned by a municipal agency and therefore we are not eligible for substantial NYC operating subsidies.
  • We have a 43-year history of excellence.
  • Key programming, publicity, and administrative staff have all been with us for many years (between 10-40 years).
